Inwood School is dedicated to building positive relationships while delivering and supporting diverse learning opportunities, fostering student development and achievement.
Inwood School is located in the community of Inwood, Manitoba and has a current enrollment of 48 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and a professional staff of 7. Support staff includes 4.5 educational assistants, a secretary/librarian, head custodian, and a part-time cleaner. In addition to the staff, Inwood School has a supportive community body and parent advisory council that helps with many activities including fundraising, hot lunch, healthy snack program, and the organization of a spring swim program for students K-6.
The school itself is a new building which began service in September 2007 and is 11,000 square feet larger than the old building. While many schools may seem impersonal, Inwood School's size allows the students and staff to know each other in a manner more as a family than an institution. New students are welcomed and quickly become an integral part of the school and community fabric.
Having a K-12 school with a current enrollment of less than 50 students allows for the delivery of high quality, highly individualized and personalized programming for all students. Guided by educational research and best practices, programs are implemented to meet the needs of all students through a combination of in and out of school experiences. Though we are small, we deliver a full complement of programs to all students including, but not limited to, Pre-Calculus Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Psychology, English Language Arts, and Home Ec., as well as opportunities in a variety of trades and workplaces through the provision of community based High School Apprenticeship (HSAP) and Career and Technology Studies (CTS) Internship options.
Due to the nature of small grade sizes we are fortunate in that we can create Early and Middle Years multi-age, multi-level, flexible learning environments aimed at meeting the specific needs of individual students as they progress along the way. As all students learn and advance at their own rate, the multi-age, multi-level environment allows them to do so seamlessly and effortlessly. As in our own homes, younger and older students work together collaboratively, developing and strengthening individual skills and abilities along the way.
The school environment is a quiet, well organized one that supports all learners. Our student population truly enjoy coming to school. We feel the variety of extracurricular opportunities (sports teams, student council, charity work, ski-trip, Europe trip) allow our students an opporunities to gain valuable leadership experience while getting a true sense of community at our school.
At Inwood School we believe that;
- all students are individuals and as such have individual needs.
- all students are capable of success and growth.
- all students do well whenever they are able.
- everything we do relies on the relationships we build.
- high expectations and effective feedback have a large effect on student achievement (Hattie, 2012)
