In Lakeshore School Division, we have a proud history of serving our communities and preparing our youth with the skills and character traits needed for an ever changing world. Our staff have worked hard to create programming to meet the needs of our students and the Lakeshore School Division board of trustees has been at the forefront of educational change.
Over two years ago, the province of Manitoba embarked an a process to review the educational system in Manitoba and on March 15, 2021, they released a K-12 report, a Better Education Starts Today strategy, and Bill 64. The BEST strategy and Bill 64 call for the removal of elected English school boards and the centralization of decision-making to a single, appointed, Provincial Educational Authority.
If Bill 64 and the BEST strategy are implemented, elected school boards will be eliminated on July 1st 2022. As we engage with our partners, families and communities over the next several months, we wish to move forward in a spirit of rigorous dialogue that leans heavily on evidence-based research on how to best support student learning.
